Feel Bad For Me

I've been dying to take my kids to Disneyland.  I think they're at ages where they'd enjoy it and I could enjoy spending time with Ali in California.  So for weeks--months maybe--I've been checking out KSL (our Craig's list) for people wanting to split 6 day park hopper passes.  I've been selling furniture in my shed and collecting money in a Disneyland fund.  I want to go.  I really, really want to go.

So, when I was driving the other day and the radio station I was listening to advertised that they were giving away Disneyland tickets every weekday in March (3 times a day!),  I determined I was going to win.  The very next day, I tuned in the the station at the right times ready with my phone (number on speed dial!) to call.  The requirements to win are that you 1) identify the Disney character they play over the air 2) and be caller #20.

The first time I tried, I couldn't get in, and the character was Tigger.  Who doesn't know Tigger? The second time I tried, the Disney character (a girl) said, "I just wish none of this would've ever happened!"  Katie was over and neither of us knew the answer.  We kept calling anyway.  I got in as caller #4, hung up and tried again, all the while trying to think of every girl character in every Disney movie when the phone started to ring.  I was panicking--racking my brain for any any clue when I heard..."You're caller 21!  Caller 20 got the character wrong--you have a chance to win!  Can you name the Disney character?"

And I couldn't.

That's right, I got in to the radio station.  I actually got in twice and had a chance to win.  I say had because I lost.  I LOST.  I could've won Disneyland tickets for my family for two days, but I lost.

So, do YOU know the character?

Pocahontas.  Freaking Pocahontas.  I have never seen it because that Colors of the Wind song made me think twice about it.  Now I swear I'll never watch it as long as I live--that Pocahontas made me lose Disneyland.

Oh, and if that wasn't bad enough, guess who the next character was?  Lightning McQueen.

If it makes you feel any better (and it probably won't) taking small children to Disneyland is exhausting and the money will fly out of your purse faster than you can say Pocahontas! Still, I am heartbroken that you didn't win.

so are you coming or not?

Listen. There's got to be a way. please call me today so we can discuss plans b & c. and ps....call me on my home phone as my cell phone has turned up missing...AGAIN!

That makes my heart hurt for you. Has anyone ever seen Pocahontas?

Had you only spoke up sooner! Disney's Give A Day Get A Day JUST ended! How horrible!

For the record, I would never have gotten that. While I was reading I was actually thinking Alice in Wonderland. Pocahantas wasn't ever on my radar. But I totally loved the movie as a girl. My sisters and I would blast the music on our portable CD players and dance around pretending we were dancing with John Smith.

today's clue was from pocahontas again. i'm starting to think they're trying to boost that film's numbers after discovering that no one has seen it.

I really do feel bad for you! That really stinks!

I'm frustrated for you!! I would have totally gotten the Pocahontas reference! OK, ok, I wouldn't have. Kills me that the next one was Lightning McQueen.

eh, i still listen to the soundtrack (alas, my awesome stretchy-band watch featuring the lovable forest creature friends has been lost)... but i would never have known that...wait, they didn't play it from the movie, they just read it, right?

Jayne! I love this. you've been our competition! Nick and I have been calling in all week! We totally stink at it, the only character we have recognized is mickey mouse. we still keep calling anyways and we laugh because if we were to be caller 20 we would never have a clue the right answer! I'll be thinking of you at 2:30!

OMH!!

My dumb neighbor who lives the most charmed life ever won.

And yes, she just went to Disneyland with her perfect 6 kids for Christmas.

Wow.

March isn't over yet!! Keep trying...tell and you will win.

Ha- now you know how we felt when we didnt win your drawing!

When we went I swear i wanted to go more than the kids. We lucked out though because my moms old roomie got us in. She worked there for 25 years. I have heard that if you do service you get a pass and I just heard that making simple pillowcase quilts for certain organizations count. It seems like that would be a pretty simple way to go. you should look it up. That is what I am planning on doing this summer.

p.s. I loved your home tour SOOOOO much. REALLY> so much. I bought a similar vanity on craigslist some time ago and I am in love with it! I have it stashed under my in-laws house for someday when i have the room.

Too lazy to read through all the comments but you know about getting a free pass by doing service right?

You enter your zipcode in on disney's site and it gives you places in your area that are participating. Do a certain number of hours of service (6 hours or so) and get a free pass...

Also, try checking craigslist here in Southern California. There is always park hopper passes that people are trying to sell because they can't or won't use the full 3, 4 or 5 days. Does that make sense?

scratch the service suggestion...it just ended...

dang, that really STINKS!!!

for what it's worth, i've seen Pocahontas zillions of times and I don't remember that line!

Has anyone really ever watched that movie? I know that I haven't.

Tell you what, I'll come over with the DVD of my Disneyland trip a few summers ago and you can live it vicariously.

Whadda think?

Jayne,

Kim's bed and breakfast is now offering FREE room and board to qualifying friends. What's the catch? Loads of summertime fun on Lake Erie! Boating, swimming, Cedar Point, Put in Bay, Amish Country and Tribe games! I will even cook for you. This is a much better deal than Disneyland. If the kids seem uninterested, I promise to dress up as Minnie Mouse. No cameras please.

Disneyland is overrated. Just take your kids to the beach. No waiting in lines or overpriced food, and it's free.

Oooh, Cedar Point? And Lake Erie?

Think about that one, Jayne.

Wow, I knew you would all help me feel better. I'm still trying you know.

Michelle--your comment cracked me up. I die everytime someone calls in and is all casual about the fact that they won! I'd be freaking out with excitement!

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't love Pocahontas. Disneyland will probably be a more fun with slightly older children anyway, don't you think?

Hmmm. I wouldn't have known that either. I thought it was from Beauty and the Beast. Alrighty, I feel bad for you. Actually, no I don't because your house is darling. I simply can't feel sorry for someone with an adorable home like yours.I loved reading about your home. I wish it was mine. :)

Can I ask you what color/type paint you used on your kitchen cupboards? I love it. And, I love your window in the middle of your wall idea. Genius! I have a similar wall that just blocks all the natural light that comes in. Now all I have to do is find a pretty vintage window and convince my husband to do the work. Also, can I ask where you bought your red sofas?

Eeesh. I feel like such a nosey person.

jayne wells said...

Carolyne-
Thanks for liking the red (you must be a red person too!) The paint is from Lowe's, although a company painted them and claimed to add something to the paint to make it more durable (don't know what) but the color is Barn Door Red in Valspar. It is one of the Martha Stewart colors.

I got the couches at RC Willey Outlet. They were a super deal and a lucky find. The brand is Broyhill.

If you put a window in, I want to see pictures!

AAAAH! That's so lame!

I've been dying for Disneyland tickets too! We finally went ahead and signed up for a service shift to chash in on the "give a day-get a day" option =)

Also, loved your house photos on Bloom!! Too fun!

Also, thanks for your sweet comment about Lucy! She loves you too (typical post church conversation: Me: "How was primary?" Lucy: "Good. Sister Wells was there.")

Have a good weekend, friends! =)

Jayne! I adore you. I just love reading your blog.

I am not a blogger myself. You keep it real. I love your witt. You are refreshing!

I have been searching wallpaper books for something like your wallpaper on your living room wall. The wall that has the window in it. I want to hang it in a large frame that I have above my bed. So I am wondering were I might find it?

jayne wells said...

welcome Anon and Lisa!

I got my wallpaper at Sherwin Williams. It took me a long time to find good wallpaper too! So much of it is still ducks and hearts! I did find a few good books there at SW, so check it out!
