Classic, Still Classic

Today is a day to be marked--it was the kids' first trip to Classic Skating (oh, did the black party carpet give it away?).  That's right, Classic Skating, a place every Utah child hopes to find themselves on a field trip, at a birthday party or if they have a totally awesome mom who looked on a website to find out what to do with her family (kidding).

I just wanted to report that Classic Skating is alive and well, complete with skating games such as Wipe-out, the Hokey-Pokey, Red Light Green Light, and classic (can't say it enough) tunes such as Macho-Macho Man, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and Livin' On a Prayer  (with a whole lot of Taylor Swift and Black Eyed Peas mixed in).

And I may have been one of only 5 adults on the rink--but I'm pretty sure I saw a few hot-shot eleven year olds fighting over who got to ask me to partner skate (don't tell me you wouldn't ask me!) Too bad I left before they got the chance.

Oh, and if you're totally awesome, come be my neighbor--please? Buy this house!!

they totally got rid of the one in bountiful! i spent many a birthday party there. always wishing their tiny ice cream in a cup was bigger.

i'd so love to be your neighbor. if it could just stay vacant for another year and a half...

a girl can dream. :)

if I bought that house we could totally go rollerskating together any day of the week. I'd partner skate with you and then show you up with my backwards skating moves.

Parley could drive the car over anytime, and we'd send jack over to poop in your bushes.

a match made in heaven. yes?

Classic Skate! The one we had growing up was called Skateway. There was always too much couple skating for my taste. But now that I am three times older, if I could get Josh out on that floor, I can hardly imagine anything more romantic. Well, a couple of other things come to mind. But mostly roller skating with low lights.
In other news...we ARE moving to Utah! And, I like those houses! Let me be your neighbor! For reals.

Jayne jayne jayne, how could you not know that the partner skate is known as the "snow ball". Classic skating is the best. One time we went there with my fifth grade class and I was "snow balling" with my crush and I fell a little. Wah wah. Otherwise classic skating has been a pretty sweet venue. I went there after Homecoming this year actually haha.

Our local place is called Skate World. I recently had to go there for a friends kids bday party. Oh the memories, complete with the classic brown and orange skates. It still smelled like a port-o potty, had the same carpet walls (for crash padding) and misspelled signs and banners. Memories!

Oh man! I looked at the house's in your neighborhood, I want Matts house! 3900 square feet!? What the heck! Now if only they need a Rocket Scientist (fine Rocket Engineer) in Provo. Oh and there's that pesky fact that we just bought a house in Colorado, darn it!

P.S. It's good to know rolling skating is alive and well somewhere in the US.

Did they do a boys-only skate and play "Wild Boys" by Duran Duran while the girls lined up to slap the boys' hands as they skated by? Man. I miss those times.

Darn it, Jayne! I forgot you could take scooters! I was invisioning a lot of sad crashes on skates. You look just that much more awesome on skates, by the way. So next time... I'm in.

Classic. Do you feel just as cool as a mom than you did as a teacher? Probably not. I remember feeling like I was a rock star skating around with the disco lights turning. Fun!

i saw the aquabats in concert there.

oh, and i got engaged at a skating rink. it's true. during the snowball skate...

These are some of the best comments ever.

Robin--engaged at the snowball! Talk about romance!

Allison--You WERE a rockstar skater! I've never seen kids adore a teacher like you! I think you brought Aaron too right?

Sarah--we were neighbors once and it was swell--hopefully our rocket engineer market will pick up!

Adrienne! For real? Tell me more! jayniewells@yahoo.com. I actually would pay money to see you and Josh out on the rink!

Kimba--I was thinking about that funny ice cream in a cup too! I'll keep my eyes open for houses in a year and a half!

Ali--Jack and Parley would be a totally dangerous duo! Parley could drive Jack to complete mischievous deeds! You know it is my dream to be your neighbor--we once shared a life!

Paige! How could I have forgotten the snowball! First you share your bras, then this knowledge. Good thing I have someone in the know that I can count on.

Anita, It's those blue and orange skates you're liking I can tell. I'll meet you at Classic in Midvale any day!

Carly, I don't think it was wild boys--but it was something else very boy-ish. that is so funny.

Kim--Skate world should invest in these sweet blue and orange skates--as you can see I totally rule in them.

Megan--next time for sure.

Natalie--please invite me to your house with party carpet and I will bring skates and ice cream in a cup. Jed can mix a skate cd.

Ahhh, Classic is classic! Once upon a time I had a crush on this boy and I got to hold his hand for the couples skate. It was bliss! On the be your neighbor bit, I only wish it was this May we were going to be done and not next. Matt's house would be perfect for us!! Plus then maybe our kids could walk to school together like we did.

Did you give the boy behind the counter an extra buck to wear the skates that matched your outfit?

I always have to wear boy skates because my feet are so big. Boo!

Beautiful photo.

You are one brave soul…or partially brain-damaged; take your pick.

Someday I, too, will be a cool mom. Because telling the kids they can skate around the block as long as they STAY ON THE SIDEWALK just doesn't reach your awesomeness level.

Someday.
