Do You Hear What I Hear?

Hopefully we're all enjoying Christmas music now that it is officially December. In our house we can't celebrate, mention or cheer on Christmas until Thanksgiving has had its fair representation (Jed is a little nazi-ish about it). But NOW, boy howdy, you'd think I was Delilah herself the way I'm continuously playing Christmas music--with no commercial interruptions, I might add.

I've long since said that I'm almost positive Hem will be perpetually playing in the heavens, and their Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas is proof of that. Please listen to it if you haven't already, it promises to make your yuletide gay. Another favorite this year, Still, Still, Still sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, (who probably really are singing in the heavens even now). It is the "so-pretty-you-get-chills" kind of song. And, incidentally, it features a new text by David Warner, the elder brother of my good friend Jenny, and who is also a personal friend to Jed. In fact, if you were to ask Jed who he admired most among living men in this world, he'd probably list David Warner second, just after his dad.

So, there you have a couple of the most beautiful songs I know. You can get them here and here. What can you share with me?

And now...a super big thank you to Mrs. Courtney Jane of cjanerun
(I'm not linking...you got to my blog through hers I'm sure) for coding my special new banner. She's mentioned LOVING coding. You should ask her to do yours. She has oodles of time right now.

Jayne!

It's been millennia since I've seen you! It sounds like you're doing well. I ended up seeing a few of your photos when you got them printed (good shots of your kids I might add) when I was getting a few shots of my own done.

I figure that during the first week of December that the Christmas music is okay. Before that? Probably not...

Holy Crap that kuddos was late in coming.

Thanks for telling me about Jed's admiration of David Warner. Two great minds like eachother . . . or however that saying goes . . .

P.S. You are welcome for bringing SSV friends back into your life. Teachinfourth is an amazing writer/photographer. Who knew?

Christmas music is the best! I enjoyed listening to your links. Still, Still, Still was probably my mom's favorite. She used to sing it to me in German. Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas is such a good song too, I remember watching Meet me in St. Louis with my dad. I will probably always hear Judy Garland in the back of my mind when I hear that song.
What a fabulous time of year! I hope you have a fantasic holiday season!!

Oh Al,
You'll notice I still don't have half the comments you do. Sniff, sniff. I'm always a step behind you. And even if I wanted polly pockets and spanx to grafiti up my blog, I'd need at least 15 comments on my posts...I'll send them your way.

Um, thanks for the new music -- it's all I need. No really! I am going to be buying the Hem CD for sure.
My husband is also anti-Christmas stuff until Thanksgiving is over. Kind of an adjustment for this girl who used to listen to Christmas music as soon as it got cold (Halloweenish). But, I'm adjusting and have become Deliliah also ;)

nicole,

that's probably the prettiest comment anyone ever left on a blog.

even though i found this hem version and i love it, i've never felt anyone ever matched judy garland in really plumbing the depths of that melody.

Nicole,
I agree with Jed. I like to imagine your sweet mom singing Still, Still, Still to you in German and also you as a little girl watching with your dad. Time goes too quickly doesn't it?

Jayne,

I just got turned on to your blog and I really enjoy it. I'm not big into blogs but I think it's about time somebody puts together a blog that can knock Cjane of her blogging high horse, and I think you have the potential.

David Warner? Does Jed let him call him Ted? Now that's real admiration.

ted is a title reserved for royalty.

I wanted to add in a few great Christmas songs and then I discovered cjane's...compliment? I guess people have come to not expect much from former PE teachers.

Ah, the subtleties of being one from which no expectations are in order, but I become capricious.

The songs I wanted to suggest were a few I really like this time of year: All I Really Want for Christmas by Steven Curtis Chapman. I also really enjoy this little tune by Third Day. Finally this one by FFH.
