A Mother Always Knows

Ever since Parley watched a certain cousin peedle outside, we've struggled. I didn't know about it until I watched him drop his pants in the family room and head to the front door.

"Parley! What are you doing?"

"I need to peedle!"

"Parley, we don't peedle outside!"

"Yes! I want to!"

Tantrum, tantrum, BIG tantrum.

Then Hazel chimed in:

"He peedled in the backyard this morning."

What?!

We've had a number of talks about peedling since then:

We don't peedle outside. We don't peedle outside. We don't peedle outside. We only peedle outside if we're camping. We don't peedle outside.

A few days after the first incident and subsequent talks, Jed and I babysat our nieces and nephews for an evening. Abbie, the very responsible niece, offered to take the kids to the park across the street. What babysitter would pass that offer up? After 45 minutes or so, I called the kids home. When we were alone for a minute, Abbie told me that Parley peedled outside, and of the neighbor kids said, "Gross!" Awesome.

Later, while putting his jams on, I said, "Parley, I heard you peedled outside at the park."

He thought for a minute, with a very sorry and serious face. Finally, he said, "You heered a new sound and thought, that's Parley peedling?

It took a second to put it together, but he thought I actually heard him peedle all the way across the street.

"Yep." I said, with a disappointed face.

"I'm sorry I peedled outside."

And to my knowledge (and extra sensitive ears) it hasn't happened since.

I peedled too; sorry...

I wonder why it is that peedling outside is SO tempting? (Um, not to me, obviously, but to small children).

Don't tell Parley, but since we didn't have any neighbors around for a long time, when mine wanted to peedle outside, we let him. Only in the fenced in backyard, where no one could see, and where we don't really go anyway. It was a short-lived interest after it was allowed. Problem solved. Maybe Parley would just do it more often, though.

Ahh...hahaha. I don't know what's funnier. The fact that he just wants to peedle outside or that you guys say "peedle". Cute Pars is now going to be so cautious because you seem to heered everything!!

The longer he thinks you hear (or heer) and know everything, the better.

P.S. Yeah Linds. He told me he "peedled" in my back yard when they were at my house. I didn't know what was going on until Jayne got back and told me about this little problem/adventure. Then I realized what he had been saying about his mom telling him not to "peedle" outside. This has to be a Wells word, right?

My husband's parents live on a small farm. SO, if you need to pee, you pee outside. My boys have been told that's okay by Grandpa and now I can't convince them otherwise. Yeah. Drives me crazy...

Good luck with Parley!

I'm sorry. Again. I can bet it is not the last time I am sorry.

I am so relieved that my henry wasn't that "certain cousin" that showed him how to peedle outside. Henry looks for every chance he gets to have an outdoor experience.
