Fire Creek

We were nearing the end of Jed's time at BYU. He was (I was) trying to find an internship for him with one or another of his favorite photographers. One was in Texas and another in New York. It was a confusing time and nothing seemed to be falling into place. Jed had been working at BYU for Lifesong which was making little short films with a philosophy professor at the head. Jed got a call one day in the midst of internship seeking, from this professor, asking him if he'd like to direct a feature.

Now you've got to understand, Jed's passion is film. Always has been. He has acted (well) since he was a little boy. Graduating in photography fueled his desire to make beautiful pictures. So, while this offer derailed our photography internship and eventual move to New York City to photograph Martha Stewart or Conan O'Brien, we felt to jump at the opportunity. We didn't know why. We still don't know why.

I was pregnant with Parley when Jed started shooting the picture--which meant long hours away from us. He was missed and we were all tired. But I've never seen him so happy at work. He enjoys the process of filmmaking so much. As wives, we know how wonderful it is when your husband is happy at work, right? So it was good.

So (fastforward with me) the film was shot, and edited (with music and boxing noises). It was sent to festivals and then it sat. And sat. And sat.
By a twist of fate, stroke of luck, divine intervention--I don't know, you decide--it is coming out Friday, May 8. At Cinemark theatres across Utah county. Only Friday, unless we can prove (with money for tickets) that it is worth keeping around. And I think it is (please go see it).

Is this the movie about those vampires? JK. I'm going today at 12:35, by myself if necessary. Hope lots and lots of people go!

shan, why don't you make your rich husband (isn't he "almost there" yet?) buy a bunch of tickets as a donation. he doesn't have to go, he could just support BYU through his generosity. i know he'd go for that.

Ok, I just got back from the movie (the first one Roger was willing to go to with me since Blackhawk Down). I loved it. The filming was beautiful, the story was poignant, and the acting was great (especially by baby Atticus). Jed, well done. I hope it goes far. It was fun to see your dad, and did I see Hazel in a picture? I hope you will take this as a compliment...the filming reminded me some of my favorite movie, Tender Mercies. Anyway, thanks and good luck!

Cheri and I give it two enthusiastic thumbs up! Beautiful imagery, Jed. Good acting and beautiful music. Well done.

(Darn the recession. I haven't heard the "almost there" comment for a while.)

I didn't get to see it today! I really want to watch it though, my mom really liked it and I'm sure you did a great job Jed. You'll have to let me know if I still have a chance to see it.

Congratulations Jed! I know all about following passions coming from the Warner family! My dad went to acting school, art school, modeled to support himself and then majored in philosophy at Yale! He spent 20 years creating and writing something that he loved and it finally is starting to pay off. who knows where this will lead! It looks awesome Jed! I hope it gets tons of recognition!
