Often times Entertainment Weekly, Jed's favorite magazine, has a small section that gives an entertainer the opportunity to give his/her pick for 12 super CDs . I have always wondered what I'd choose when my turn came up. Over time, I decided what I might suggest to the world and since there have been no signs that point to EW asking me to publish my picks, I've decided to let the list out.

Jayne's picks for 12 Super CDs (in no particular order):

12. Ben Folds Rockin' the Suburbs
11. Hem Rabbit Songs
10. Hem Eveningland (Yikes! Two from one artist?)
9. Sting Brand New Day (Jed says the rule is no greatest hits) otherwise, Fields of Gold
8. Shawn Covin A Few Small Repairs
7. Rufus Wainwright Want One
6. Indigo Girls Swamp Ophelia
5. Radiohead OK Computer
4. David Gray Life in Slow Motion
3. Keane Under the Iron Sea
2. Midlake The Trials of Van Occupanther
1. Josh Rouse Subtitulo

It is hard to narrow it down to just 12, but as for liking a complete album, like 85-100% , these are good choices. Coldplay's Rush of Blood to the Head is another I really like. And before Dave Matthews Band came out with it's 29th live album and 300th dumb album, I listened to Crash a lot. I got tired of Sarah Mclachlan's weird popularity, but really do love Surfacing. So sue me, I've added a few more.

What would your list look like?

I wouldn't have a list because I don't even buy CDs and I don't think I even own or know of enough CDs to formulate a list. I do, however, listen to "Oldies But Goodies"....like David Bowie, any alternative 80's stuff, etc.

I am way behind on the times music-wise. I don't think I've even heard of half the artists on Jayne's list and the other half I hate (except Radiohead and Keane). Sorry Jayne! I don't think we've agreed on music since Michael Jackson's Thriller. I do love Coldplay though.... :) Oh, and Jayne, if you want to learn me on good music of today, feel free to make me a mix CD!!! (teehee) I will send you $ for postage and the CD.

Linds,
I did just make an awesome mix of the prettiest songs I know. And yes, please sent me the $.75 for postage and CD, I'm really particular about that--you nutcase! But just to warn you, there are a few songs from those you claim to hate. (I'm assuming Sting, Indigo Girls, Ben Folds, Shawn Colvin?) But you might just learn to love them after the prettiest songs mix. But I could make you another great mix too. Jed is the master of mixing CDs.
You're right, I should've added Thriller to the list.

Jayne,

I don't even have a list of 12 yet, maybe when I'm older...but I do love coldplay and keane! My mom is obsessively listening to under the iron sea these days! I love that cd. I like Parachutes and Rush of Blood more then x & y as far as coldplay goes. How about you?

Anonymous said...

I do love Keane, love is probably not a strong enough word. I am obsessively listening to it in the car. ADORE, CHERISH, HOLD DEAR, LOVE Keane. I didn't know you loved it Jayne. Paige introduced me to it. I love #s 9 and 10 and pretty much all the rest. Okay, enough about that.

Also love X&Y interestingly enough, the most of all Cold Play CDs. Then Rush of Blood.

The other CD I listen to a lot in the car is Pat Matheny. It's pretty much as good as Keane. Paige and I saw them in concert last year and it was amazing. It's cool jazz-type music. I LOVE IT TOO.

Otherwise, I would choose Brand New Day also. I love Thousand Years or whatever it's called. It's a great song.

I like the CD Paige made for me recently. I can't remember everyone on it but I know it has The Frey (Fray?) and I like those songs a lot. She's introduced me to some great stuff.

Hmmm, I hated most of the 90s music so I'm glad I like this new stuff. It's fun to have a teenager to introduce you to new music. I was out of it for a long time with little kids.

Now I'm so WITH it.

Other great overall CDs, it's a greatest hits but I say Earth, Wind and Fire's greatest hits.

I love David, my boyfriend.

Love Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto.

Oh, also in the car, the Gypsy Kings. It's cool music.

Okay, that's it for now.

it's coldplay and the fray...der (spelling errors!) Ha ha..just kiddin mom. The CD I made her has hot hot heat, the fray, elliot smith, erasure, blink 182, blue merle, aqualung, death cab for cutie, and a barenaked ladies song (i usually hate them, but this one song is good!)It's a dang good mix!

Lindsey said...

Y'all seriously need to get Sting of y'all's lists.

Boy am I opening a can with that statement....A) it's so grammatically wrong and B) you guys love him and I don't.

Anonymous said...

Why can't you love Sting? How about the Police? One of my top ten songs ever is probably Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.

Ahhh!, get rid of those. I don't know what happened!

Lindsey said...

I like The Police. But I don't like Sting. He's hot, but his music?...not so much.

I've been asking my "hip,with-it" family back in Utah to make me mixed CD's of all those artists that I haven't heard of, i.e. Keane, someone please help a girl out!!!

Anonymous said...

In my car right now I have some mixes from my kids that are fun. Jayne's new mix is awesome...what I heard of it at her house. I still love David Grey a lot. I'm glad Katie introduced me to him and his concert was so much fun. I like Coldplay and Josh Rouse too.
I can't figure out why you don't like Sting though Linds?
Cute Hazel likes The Beatles...and how can you beat The Beatles???? Paul used to be my boyfriend, but now he's looking way old. :)

Anonymous said...

well lemme be the first boy to contribute, i know i get made fun of by my family for like the chili peppers, but i really do like them a lot, and chuck only likes their new stuff, the concert was amazing, just ask russie or andy, it was worth the money. under the iron sea is amazing by keane. hopes and fears by keane is really good too. i love the strokes, and im really glad jed introduced me to them, their newest 'first impressions of earth' is amazing, their concert was amazing i would go again any day. the killers are another that are really good, their 'sam's town' album is really really good, much better then that last one, even though their first was good too. phoenix, another jed introduced to me i really like as well. radiohead's amnesiac and ok computer is awesome. the fray i only like two songs, and his voice kinda bothers in others. coldplay used to be my favorite band but got replaced by strokes, keane, killers but still have great albums. ill contribute more later, but i wanna hear your responses i suppose.

Anonymous said...

COLDPLAY WAS REPLACED BY THE STROKES AND THE KILLERS??? Keane is way good...but over coldplay? Just kidding. I like too young and consolation prizes by phoenix, they're cool. Anyway, that's all. I love these blogs so much!

my boyfriend would have to be chris martin. :)

Lindsey said...

I still say Sting sucks.

J Wells said...

this is the husband weighing in. i want to put in a shameless plug for midlake. they have to be the freshest talent on an old idea since wolfmother. both bands have taken their influences and made magic of their own without borrowing.

midlake is like an old rope swing by the river. it's swimming in cut-offs. it's perpetually 3 in the afternoon with a sweaty pepsi. it's driving at night with the windows down. it's bare feet on hot asphault. it's america meets fleetwood mac married to all the good songs neil young never wrote. it's a downy bed of guitars and and strings lain carefully for a blanket of the most tender harmonies and silken vocals you heard once upon a time while you were dreaming. back in 1974.

Anonymous said...

Jed,can you make me a CD of Midlake? :) I did like them when you had me listen to them.
Interestingly enough I wrote down my favorite "albums" so far in my life. They are:
Bread-On the Waters
Neal Young-Harvest
Beatles-Abby Road and Mystery Tour
America-Homecoming
Eagles-Eagles and Desparado
Elton John (the one with Our House)
Elton John-Made in England
John Lennon-Imagine
Paul McCartney-Red Rose Speedway
Art Garfunkle-Breakaway
Fleetwood Mac- Fleetwood Mac and Rumours
U2 Joshua Tree
Cars-Heartbeat City
Police-Every Breath you Take and Sychronicity
Sting-All This Time and others
Smashing Pumpkins-Adore and others
David Grey A New Day @ Midnight and White Ladder
Coldplay-I like all 3

I'm embarrassed to admit that I like all 3 Coldplays to Jed. He is the king of what is new and good.
But they ARE easy and nice to listen to.
Danny and I heard on the radio this morning that The Police are reuniting for the Emmy's and then to go on tour!
He said The Pumpkins are reuniting as well.
Music is cool!

'74 WAS a good year!

jayne wells said...

Linds,
You want to go to that Police reunion with me? Maybe Sting will sing a few of his best for you...Fragile, Shape of my Heart, All this time...You're checking ticket prices already aren't you?!

Lindsey said...

Jayne,

Thanks for the invite, and I would go, but like you said, he might bust out a solo song and I would be tortured. Sting and U2 rank in my bottom 2 of all time....right down there with Hanson.

jayne wells said...

who are you coldplay fanatic?

Anonymous said...

jayne, come on! who do you think coldplay fanatic would be???! and who else would choose chris martin as their boyfriend??! I want to see who you guess...hee hee

Lindsey said...

GWYNETH! WELCOME!

jayne wells said...

gwyneth is always checking my blog.
Ashley? Is that you?

J Wells said...

alright, jayne. you caught me. i am the fabled colplay fanatic. you've known for a while about my chris martin thing, this was my way of making it public. so, step off, ashley.

12 CD's that you need to get right now: these are the one's i'm spinning right now, they do not represent the best ever, since that is a silly thought.

Mew- And the Glass Handed Kites
The Arcade Fire- Funeral
Ravel- Piano Concerto in G Minor
The Format- Dog Problems
Jay-Z- Kingdom Come
LCD Sound System- Sound of Silver
Lupe Fiasco- Food & Liquor
Midlake- The Trials of Van Ocupanther
Satie- Gymnopedie No.1&3
Rogue Wave- Descended Like Vultures
Sufjan Stevens- Come on Feel the Illinoise
Madeleine Peyroux- Half the Perfect World

Anonymous said...

Are you guys nuts? You really don't know who would say that Chris Martin was her boyfriend (besides Gwyneth)?

Also, Jed, glad to see you're not smoking any doobies today.

Lindsey said...

Mew? Isn't Mew a Pokemon?

J Wells said...

smoking any doobies... did i miss something?

you'll have to ask danno or ange about the pokemon. alls i know is that music doesn't come from japan.

Anonymous said...

I can't believe you guys don't know who the Coldplay fanatic is. It has to be Paige Marie!!!!
Jed, are you a disc jockey? That would be sweet if you were! :)

Shan, what are doobies?

Lindsey said...

Fer sure Jed should be a DJ. I would call him "Mix-Master Illinoise", cuz da noise would be illin'. Jus' like Sufjan.

Anonymous said...

That was very very clever, Linds! :)

J Wells said...

i would only be a DJ if linds would agree to be my PR. i need someone who knows how to repreSENT. and ebonics has always been the language of representing.

Anonymous said...

Hey Mixmaster, the other day when you were waxing poetic I wondered if you were smoking something.

J Wells said...

daddy doesn't do doobies anymore. the poetry could be residue, however, like so much bong-water.

Anonymous said...

Gosh, I should have asked my son-in-law if he'd "inhaled" BEFORE he married my daughter!
Is ebonics where you learn to read by the sounds of the letters?

Anonymous said...

mew is certainly a pokemon, and i do agree with jed that music does not come from the land of the rising sun. music is created purely by USA and UK but before that... japan had too create the cd's which jed spins, linds reprsents, and leads people towards doobies.

Anonymous said...

Yes, coldplay fanatic is me. Jed, I didn't know you had a thing for chris as well! That's cool! I just gotta say, the fray were so so good in concert, amazing! Not as good as coldplay or dmb, but very good! The greatest music comes from the UK in my opinion.

jayne wells said...

boy was I wrong. This whole time I thought Gwyneth had been checking my blog--Paige! You tricky dicky!

Dan, did Mr. Roylance teach you to call Japan the land of the rising sun? You sound really smart.

J Wells said...

paige, i knew you and i had more in common than the rest of these chumps. you'll always be my favorite.

Lindsey said...

DAMNIT JED!

Anonymous said...

I grew her in my womb.

Lindsey said...

Well at least I'm Grandma's favorite.

Lindsey said...

AND Grandpa's

Anonymous said...

Mom, thanks for growing me in your womb, I appreciate that. And Jed, you've been my favorite for a long time.

jayne wells said...

Man, I really thought Jed and I had something going.

Anonymous said...

I really like kick it old school to a little Sergio Menendez and top it off with some Vanilla Ice...Give me a break, Keane, Coldplay, Colvin, Mudlake...blah, blah, blah!!! They all sound the same.

Shana, is the lead singer from Keane the one gasping for air throughout all his songs?

What y'all need is a good dose of Hendrix, Rush, Zeppelin and Floyd

Anonymous said...

I put 2 different CD's in my car now, that I forgot to mention as FAVORITES. That is what this blog is about isn't it?
BEN FOLDS (edited by Katie, I think...if its you, Jayne, I'm sorry)
BEN HARPER

Mike you are sooooo stuck in the 80's. Jed likes Sergio and Zeppelin though, so maybe you two can have something going.

Who can I have something going with, if Lindsey is the grandparents favorite and Shana grew Paige in her womb?

jayne wells said...

Well, you did grow me in your womb mom. I guess that gives us some kind of connection. But enough about wombs...

Mike...so opinionated for such a jolly fellow. But see, Jed and my "song" is a Led Zepplin song: Black Dog. :)

jayne wells said...

By the way, it probably was me who made the Ben Folds CD.

Katie, Katie, Katie!!

Anonymous said...

yes but no one has quite a connection to the baby in my womb. tis been 16 long years...

jayne wells said...

dan! You're awesome.

But enough about wombs for the last time.

Anonymous said...

To womb it may concern....

I'll never forget when Black Dog was the theme of your Jr. Prom, Jayne, and I saw you and Jed dancing to that song, and you were the runner up to Black Dog queen.
Damn that Alisa Gamette.

So, now I have that beautiful connection with you two. That can be "our song"....you and Jed...and your mothe.

Anonymous said...

Mine and Lindsey's song can be the theme from Apollo 13, mine and Dan's can be Californication, and mine and Mike's can be Stairway to Heaven! Oh and Shana's and my song is I Heard it Through the Grapevine. My song with Sheryl is Treat Her Like a Lady!!! Sweet!

Anonymous said...

I hate I heard it through the grapevine. We were both grown in the same womb. Isn't that enough of a connection? I just like to talk about wombs because it's bothering Jayne. And Dan, that was darn funny. And Mike, embrace the 2000s. That 80s stuff stinks. Yes, he's breathing a lot, because he's passionate.

Lindsey said...

I was a test-tube baby so I was never in a womb.

Anonymous said...

me and charles have two songs:
Cheer up Charley (willy wonka)
Daniel my Brother (elton)

and im sure a song will adress linds' problem someday. maybe something like: baby, my tubey baby. just a thought from me

Lindsey said...

"Baby, my Tubey Baby" ?????

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anonymous said...

Danny, you're crazy. I was going to ask if it was you who thought you had a baby in your tummy or if it was your twin brother Steve?

Lindsey said...

On another note, me and Russ share "What'cha Want" by the Beastie Boys. You put that song on while Russ and I are together and by golly you're gonna get a show!

Anonymous said...

By golly, I want to see that show!Next time we're together.....
Was Russy a tubey baby too?

Lindsey said...

Oh! Wait! Russ was the Tubey baby and I was just illegitimate. My bad.

Anonymous said...

I'm both of those things. :(

Anonymous said...

You were all tubby babies I know that.(Like chubby babies). Chuck didn't like bobbies in his tubby though. Who would do that anyway?

Lets see now....weren't we talking about music once upon a time?

Speaking of babies though....I'm surely glad my Wellsie grandbabies and their parents made it to Hawaii finally! At first Hazey wasn't sure it really was Hawaii...but thank goodness it was.

Lindsey said...

Can Jaynie Blog from Hawaii-stop saying Hawaii in there?

I miss her.

Anonymous said...

We did have some great music days didn't we Sher? Remember when we would listen to Casey Casen's Top Ten Countdowns on the radio each week? It was when we shared a bedroom. Remember the song about a car crash? You'll remember the name of it. Did you like it? You did? Oh, I didn't.
Your comments made me laugh hard. You were a good sport to like my music. And Shana grew up loving the Beatles, especially "Let it Be". I'm glad she grew up with OUR good music, Sher. She too has good memories of it.

Let's talk about wombs. Have we talked about wombs?

Lindsey said...

My favorite song was "Beedlelac A Lady"

Lindsey said...

...or whatever.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Beetalac and DOA (doo doo doo doo!) were two of my favorites. Shana do you remember them? Maybe Danny can download DOA so we can share (Sher) it with everyone.
Love Lis or (lease).

Anonymous said...

I remember Bee D'Laque but I don't know the other one. Maybe give me some more clues and I might remember it. I only remember Bee D'Laque because I have heard it since that time. I sure wouldn't remember it from when Sher liked it/when Lisa gave Sher a hard time about getting the words wrong.

Lindsey said...

Everybody gets lyrics wrong sometime.....

By the way, I downloaded Keane's Under The Iron Sea and my fave song is #9 "Cristobal". It is awesome!!!

Anonymous said...

Isn't that number 8? And it's Crystal Bowl. It's about bowling. Do you like the others? Keep listening, you'll be addicted! I love 9 & 10.

Lindsey said...

Crystal Ball? Well that doesn't make any sense. Cristobal can save us all AND tell us life is beautiful, but a crystal ball can't! Der.

I'll send an SOS to the world!Let's all go to Vegas to see The Police in June!
