Bedtime

Hazel inherited her dad's (and possibly her grandma Lisa's) sleeping problems. It is not uncommon for her to be awake at 10:30 or 11:00. She gives it a really good shot most nights, but after reading every book and listening to the cd twice, she usually ends up finding Jed and me. Some of the time she can convince Jed to watch Planet Earth with her, other times she just makes a bed in his office (while we catch up on shows on Hulu) and lays. We're both suckers for her, she is such an obedient little thing, but Jed, who passed insomnia genes down, especially can't turn her down. The other night I saw her writing something in bed. After she was asleep I found it and read it.

I told you she was obedient.

If you're interested, Jed and I have got a date with our daughter at 10:30-11:15 watching Planet Earth. Insomniacs welcome.

I'm afraid we have the opposite problem over here in the wee hours of the morning. up for hot chocolate and boring kid shows with LOTS of infomercials intermixed. wait...infomercials...maybe I'll see you on there peddling your products.

Bless her little heart. I am also a non sleeper in stages. Sometimes I sleep all the time, othertimes, I never sleep. It sure does make for a long day when you have been up for 24 hours. Ugh!

My 6 yr old is on a steady streak of joining us in bed at 3:30 am. Poor thing. And by poor thing I am referring to both her and myself...

That note is adorable.

this is a secret:

it's a lot more fun watching planet earth with H than making her go to sleep. she maintains an inexhaustible running commentary.

Try Melatonin! It is natural and works great for my 5 yr. old with sleeping issues! I use the Natrol brand liquid.(I get it at Smiths Marketplace)1/2 teaspoon & 1/2 hr. later she's visiting the sandman!

ok... I usually dont comment but here goes. I have empathy for you because I have severe insomnia and I began to suspect my 8 year old struggled as well. I feel this problem is a vicios cycle (insomnia is fuled by insomnia) follow me? So, I went to the health food store and talked with the herbalist, and while I do not believe in childrens ambien I do however believe in a natural method to use AS NEEDED. They have a section of herbal remedies curing a variety of ailments. childrens melatonin is available (I found works the best) among lots of others. Im sure judgement will be severe with this comment. Have YOU suffered with this problem? exactly. research into it a bit, talk with people who know, etc. etc. We started off having to do this almost every night, but soon as his sleep patterns became more regular we used it less and LESS. now? we use this as needed when it gets bad and my son is loosing sleep for a few nights.Like i said the more sleep deprived the child the harder sleep is to obtain. I would be sure to look into other reasons why she isnt sleeping as well first. Honestly... it sounds like you are right on. oh.. and we grew up in the same stake!! hope all this helps. Try and see if she will do herbal tea, or warm milk (warm releases amino acid tryptophene-same as in turkey) good luck

Oh my sweet little Hazel. She is so obedient and sweet. Her thoughts remind me of you Jayne...and myself for sure! She is a great writer like her mom and dad. I wish I were there to watch PE.
Love, Grandma Lisa

Thanks for the hints all,
Angela, welcome. Are we close to the same age?
By the way, we have way less controversy over here. Unless I write about not liking Twilight.

Seriously, how can one kid be so tender hearted. She is so dang cute and obedient. Can she share some of this with other needy children? We could Really use some in our direction... and maybe a few freckles.

I really love all the notes you share from your kids. I hope you're keeping them and making a book of them for your kids. They are AWESOME notes and letters.

p.s. I have the same sleeping problem. I go weeks at a time without getting more than two hours of sleep a night. I hope she grows out of it...if not she'll find it can be a great time to fold laundry and catch up on DVR'd shows....
