Parley's First Lesson on Lung Cancer and the Word of Wisdom
We were sitting in the car waiting while Jed filled the car with gas, when Parley said,
"I wish I could do that. When I'm a big dad, I wish I could do that."
I wondered what it was Jed was doing that prompted such a wish.
"I wish I could make that smoke out of my mouth."
Oh. It wasn't Jed, it was another "big dad" or twenty-something guy, hanging out with his dog, girlfriend and cigarettes at the gas station.
"Well Parley..."
Lesson taught.
Maybe I'll have to hit chastity earlier than I thought.

my little guy thought smoking looked cool too--and we have a ton of it out here in New England. Almost every other person smokes. I had to talk to him about it a lot.
Seriously little boys? I mean it's not THAT cool looking, is it?
Most likely yes.
I'm 26 and first heard about condoms in second grade. Granted, from my friend's explanation I thought they were foam yellow diapers, but still. Now I look at second graders and freak out - way too young!
Maybe introduce him to the smell of cigarettes. That might put an end to it. :)
yeah, it was the stranger at the gas station that he saw smoking. not me. parley has never, ever, seen me smoking.
ever.
Ever?
When it comes time to have the chastity talk, Mike can give you some tips. He has been to several awesome maturation programs at the local school. Something involving a fast race car that is too difficult to handle until you are old enough so don't pull it out of the garage until you're grown up. I joke not.
Man that kid is a looker! my kids are obsessed with it too, I had to have the avoid the "appearance of evil speech" when they were pretending with q-tips!
Oh my gosh Shana--I'm dying.
Parley has proven that he's not afraid to handle cars--and really fast race cars are his most favorite things.
I think I'll look for another analogy.
Growing up, both my parents smoked. My dad died of cancer when I was 6. That is something that taught me the truth about cancer. Seeing someone smoke, in the hospital, after their voice box or larnyx was removed was enough to scare the crap out of me. Those images never will leave my mind.
The writer of jayniemoon.blogspot.com has written a superior article. I got your point and there is nothing to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not disagree with: there is a direct correlation between how hearty a person's appetite is, and how pleasant and interesting their character. I will be back.
My 7-year-old just tells people who smoke that they're going to die.
We're working on that whole matter of being tactful.
probaly...
sandy toe
My little brother developed a strong interest in smoking at age 4 and tried it with a little friend. He got caught. Then, at age 7 he tried again and was caught again...and at age 11...same drill. Not sure where all this interest came from, we're a bunch of nonsmoking, nondrinking, nondancing Southern Baptists...but, he wanted to smoke!
However, he never actually became a smoker as an adult. There's hope for Parley ;)
I was thinking maybe it was the 'steam' you often see on cold days...
My bad.
