Help A Girl Out! (and a few pointers from me too)

Help!  I need some advice!  Comment and help a girl out!

1.  I need some good mascara!  Not make-up counter good, I won't pay for that.  But I pretty much got the cheapest kind--pink with a green lid--and it won't come off when I wash my face. See for yourself!  It is not waterproof.  I know one of you was going to leave me that comment.  So, what do I buy?

2.  What happened to white nylons?  Are they totally out of style and I just missed that passing?  What do you wear in the winter (or when you forget to shave your legs) when black or brown don't match well?  I'm only thirty, so I refuse to wear those "leg colored" ones.

P.S. Tip #1  Do not type "white nylons" in a google search.  You will find links to many x rated sites.  Is that why white tights are so hard to find?

P.P.S in my searching for white nylon pictures (before I realized they'd show more than I wanted to see), someone actually wrote this question in Yahoo Answers:

How many pairs of pantyhose to cover hairy legs?
I am dressing up for Halloween and need to cover the dark hair on my legs. I shaved last year but that was annoying. How many pairs of, preferably a beige color, pantyhose will take to make the hair look non-existent?

It was annoying to shave Last YEAR?  And I thought once a week was bad!

3.  How can I get cheap airfare to Boston?  Can someone remind Boston that it is not Europe?

4.  Can someone suggest some good chapter books for Hazel?  I'm a lover of children's books (ha ha I said lover) but this young chapter book thing is killing me.  Is there something that can hold both of our attentions?  No more Annie and Jack in the Magic Tree House with their incomplete sentences and repetitious garbage!  No more dancing fairies and magic kittens!  Can't someone write something parents want to read with their kids?

Tip #2:  Pick yourself up some Charleston Chew Mini Bites from your local Dollar Store!  They look totally gross, but they are a super surprise!

5.  How come nobody told me Netflix totally ruled?

6.  Is it okay to wear your Snuggie to the grocery store?  Did I mention I have a Snuggie? I have two: red and blue.  And after seeing someone (a young looking someone,) in their--get this--hospital gown tonight at the grocery store (that's right with part of it open like hospital gowns typically are) I think the world might be ready to welcome Snuggies too.

(Because sexy and Snuggie go hand in hand!)

Tip #3 If you haven't heard Air Supply in a really long time and you want them to be a part of your life again, put it on a mix for your 6 year old daughter.  I've heard Even the Nights are Better more than I even did on Magic 107.5 when I was 6.

Help, I tell you!

Re. #1: Cover Girl Volume Exact mascara. Washes off with (drugstore) soap - no insane scrubbing required.

Re. #2: I think the last time I wore white nylons was in 1995, when I was a candy striper (not stripper), so I'm no help to you there.

Re. #3: Move to the east coast. Or at least Chicago.

Re. #4: Beverly Cleary. Try the Ramona series, or really anything she ever wrote. Roald Dahl - hilarious, hilarious, hilarious. E.B. White - I bet you'd both love Charlotte's Web, even if you both cried a lot at the end. A dear teacher friend of mine reads this to her 1st graders with great success. I also have a soft spot for the Polk Street School books by Patricia Reilly Giff; they relate really well to early elementary school kids (~grades 1-3). Good luck!

Read The Little House on the Prairie books--so exciting and teach EXCELLENT values.
Narnia books. You might think they're too old, but they're really not.
Some Lloyd Alexander books are for younger kids, you could try 'The Cat Who Wished to Be a Man' or 'The First Two Lives of Lukas-Kasha'

So mascara kills me. It is such a love hate relationship! We are on a med school budget. I have known quality expensive stuff. I have always liked nutrogena eye makeup remover. Even that is too much for my budget lately. So my theory is if you find a mascara that does what you want it to do for your lashes, then vaseline is awesome to remove the aftermath.

I went to the comments to see what people had suggested for good chapter books. My third grader is a boy and loves The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Hazel might not enjoy that as much though. Good luck!
I loved white nylons! I am excited for their come back.

Kelly said...

I don't have all the answers but I would spring for the nice mascara since you don't need to buy it often.

White nylons are a no no. Watch Tim Gund more.

And I would recommend My Father's Dragon. It is super! Oh and I second the Ramona series. Even my teenaged boys will listen when I read those to my little girl.

You're welcome Jaynie.

Jayne, Jayne, Jayne, NO white nylons. No. Nuff said. No one over the age of 12 should wear them. No one. But if you insist, Target carries them, but I sent them an email telling them they should not carry them any longer.

Mascara, I really like the purple cover girl one. It's called Lashexact Waterproof Mascara. Removes easily with soap and water.

My niece loves the Nancy Drew series from when we were kids. She's only in 2nd grade, so there are just a few words she needs help on. She also loves the Whimpy Kid ones. I love Ramona and anything by Judy Bloom!

Jayne, I have to point out a typo. Sorry, it must be done. You misspelled Cleveland. C-l-e-v-e-l-a-n-d, O-h-i-o is not spelled Chicago. ;)Oh and by the way, it's just a short 5 hour drive to Chicago from my house. How many more reasons do you need to visit?

I love, love, love Loreal Double Extend BEAUTY TUBES mascara (they have several double extend types for some reason...get the beauty tubes). It works great and comes off with cleanser/soap and a little pressure. It will not come off with just water, which makes it great for the pool or if you forgot to take your makeup off at night (no raccoon eyes in the morning). I won't use anything else since I discovered it.

I love the suggestions the other readers posted about books and am going to try them for my just-turned-7-year-old. We have been reading the Junie B. Jones series and both my daughter and I love them. Very funny and engaging.

Can't help you on the nylons. I don't wear any type of panty hose anymore. If I wear a skirt or dress, I just go without.

Good Luck!

p.s. I really enjoy reading your blog. Found you through cjane or nienie a long time ago and have been reading ever since!

Anne-Marie said...

p.s.s. If you do decide to try the beauty tubes mascara, understand that you are applying these "tubes" to your eyelashes, so when you wash it off, they come off in the sink and you might think all your eyelashes are falling out! It's just the tubes. Didn't want to give you a scare! You can find out more info if you google it. I just watched a youtube video and they say it comes off with warm water, so maybe it's just the pressure you need to get the tubes off, but I always use cleanser.

ok...this was probably more than you wanted to know!

#1: I bet if you did some sweet talking to Olivia she could hook you up with some NuSkin.

#2: consensus--no white nylons.

#4: check out: http://www.amazon.com/1001-Childrens-Books-Must-Before/dp/0789318768 from the library. They recommend books by age group, so you won't miss any of the good books out there as they grow up.

1. I refuse to wear mascara. Sorry I can't help.
2. I refuse to wear nylons May-September. I do shave my legs, but I'm guessing that last year's Halloween shaver was a man. I don't want to know.
3. Let me know.
4. Magic Tree House books are written for kids to read to themselves. That's why they are so redundant, to give those developing readers a foothold. My grandmother taught children's literature at the university and my mother read to me quite a bit, so I have a lot of guilt about reading to my kids. I was suddenly liberated years ago when I read a quote something like, "I'll read a book to my child once. If I don't like it, I tell the child, 'That one isn't to my taste. If you like it, you read it.'" Who knew that you could refuse to read an insipid book that you hate, 3 million times a day?
5. It does! Just know that when your husband orders the disk that lets you watch instantly on your TV through your Wii system, it will continue to work after the disk is removed unless you turn off the power or reset the system. This is helpful information if you don't want your teens staying up all night watching who-knows-what. Also, there are no filters or parental controls. Also, I'm just selfish about my Netflix.
6. I could totally see myself wearing a Snuggie to the store at midnight in the winter. I am not recommending it.

I'm all out of love!

You have no idea who I am, I just found your blog somehow and love your writing because of how real you are.
Try Diary of a wimpy kid. That book makes our whole family laugh. Even if you don't feel it's right for your daughter you should read it yourself for some good laughs. Also Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the BFG are favrites we enjoy together.

As far as Mascara anything Cover Girl seems to work pretty good for me.

Nicole said...

First of all, I love reading your posts. It reminds me how cleaver and funny you are! OK, here are my thoughts...since you asked.
#1: I used the pink and green stuff when I was learning how to put on mascara when I was 13, they still make that stuff? I have been pretty happy with cover girl, the one in the orange tube.
#2: NO white, absolutly not. If you need to cover up your legs in the fall and winter wear tall boots.
#4: I find the Junie B. Jones book entertaining and so do my boys. She is pretty funny.
Tip #2: Try them frozen, they are super yummy!!
#6. It is really not OK to wear your snuggie to the store. It is barely OK to wear one in the privacy of you own home, but I guess I can't knock it until I try it!

Anonymous said...

You don't know me either...but I love your blog.
Mary Kay's mascara, hands down, is the BEST! It comes of easy, no clumping, and last all day.

The Charleston Chews are delicious. I love to put them in the freezer then just grab a couple. I don't eat the entire box that way.

Carly said...

I like the Neutrogena "healthy lash" whatever stuff. It comes in a silver tube and makes me feel like I'm not putting tar on my eyes. But if I want to splurge, I get Diorshow mascara from Sephora.com. It's only an occasional splurge, but it is very worth it. No white pantyhose. But I think you could get away with a bone color, or a textured tight in a bold color (depends on what you are wearing). I think opaque tights in fun colors are totally acceptable in winter. I also believe you can get away with leg colored ones if they are fishnets, or if they have some sort of texture/pattern. Believe me, I've spent a lot of time on this one. It's a toughy. As for books, I think the best chapter books are by Roald Dahl. We started Holden with "The Twits" when he was three and we haven't looked back since. Thanks for all the tips! Snuggies at the grocery store for me!

A mascara that has not changed its packaging in the last 30 years has no place in your make-up bag. Ditch the pink and green one. L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara has always done me right.

I flew to Boston 2 weeks ago and was SHOCKED at how expensive it was. I have no advice here other than to just fly to Europe instead.

Anonymous said...

L'Oreal Double Extend Lash Mascara is so awesome. The best thing... it comes off very easy. The next best thing... should you forget to wash it off before bed, you don't have the racoon look in the morning. The one in the maroon tube works best for me. Look for it on sale at Walgreen's with a coupon. All the stores carry it, I just see it on sale at Walgreens more frequently. And, DO NOT put vaseline any where near your eyes.

Sorry Jayne, even nurses don't wear white pantyhose or stockings anymore... they do have standards, you know.

I like to buy off white or bone colored pantyhose and/or knee-his (for slacks and long skirts only) at the outlet mall in Park City (Hanes-Bali). If you insist on not shaving, get the thicker weave, but really... shave and enjoy the silk reflections, your legs (and your husband) will thank you ... you'll look simply fabulous!

Rachel said...

If you have to listen to you need a little Junie B in your life. She makes me laugh everytime. If you are going to the reading, I love Judy Blume. I read my son "Tales of the Fourth Grade Nothing" and "Superfudge"- just beware of the chapter on Santa- it will ruin the surprise!

Try going to Mexico, it is probably less then Boston and much more relaxing... just beware of drug lords.

I loved white nylons! So 80s/ 90s! I wish they were still cool, but who wears nylons anymore?

Anonymous said...

Please, please, please...wearing any type of lounge or sleep wear to the store is so "Yes, I don't have personal standards or pride in myself. That's why I look this way." Don't do it. Think about the message you are sending to your children. (You were just kidding about that one, right?)

When I see Mothers and Daughters out and about in their 'ever so cute jammies' I want to move to Europe! At least they have standards in their appearance.

This drift toward casualness in every aspect of our lives is so disheartening. Not to mention a visual assualt!

P.S. You should also put away your children's snow boots now. Seeing children, in the spring/summer/autumn, wearing their snow boots tells me Mommy doesn't care how her children look. Come on! Those snow boots are usually the easiest thing for a child to don, unaided. So of course they'll choose them everytime. Just put them away... or donate to your local free-cycle.

P.P.S. Sorry, I wish I could express my thoughts more easily... I just have such a hard time expressing myself, sometimes :/ NOT!

Look at the flights going into Manchester, NH. They're cheaper and the airport is much easier to navigate. It's only maybe 50 minutes of highway till you reach downtown Boston. I understand if you feel skeptical, but I'm a native and I fly into Manchester when I go home.

I also buy the off white/bone hose at the Leggs outlet. But I'm old and not cool at all.

Rimmel eye make up remover will take off sharpie marks on your face. It's incredible and only $6.

jayne wells said...

Wow! You guys are the best! I'm going to write down all your mascara picks at the store and buy me a lifetime supply!

Now you've all put the ban on white nylons (remember--don't google it!) are all nylons bad? What do I do in the winter?

The book ideas are great. I love love love Roald Dahl and the Narnia series and Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary are great too, but they seemed a little old for her (especially when Superfudge mentioned the birds and the bees. Not interested in teaching that yet). I can't WAIT to get to the Witches though. But I remember reading Patricia Reilly Giff when I was young and liked them. We've been trying the little house and Junie B. and she seems to like them.

Thanks for the freezing tip on the Charleston chews!

You know I was kidding about the Snuggie, right?

I love lists!
1. I know you said no make up counter, but Clinique Lash Doubling is great and not too bad at $12.
2. White nylons = out. Try a color! Aubergine, navy, textured!
3. Kayak.com. may not have the answer, but lets you compare.
4. Laura Ingalls Little House series,Boxcar Children, Anne of Green Gables
5. It is. Welcome to the party.
6. No.

very funny as always jaynie!
#1--cover girl in the blue tube (manna's idea, since i had to buy those to send her on the mission and they're great)
#2--white nylons scream "going to the temple"--only acceptable time to wear them IMHO, and only if you're over 55. i had to have this discussion with eliza recently too, so you guys could bond about it. patterned tights, and boots in the winter!
#4--i've been reading Mrs. Piggle Wiggle and Pippi Longstocking to N & L at night and those are fun. i'm not a blume or junie fan--more edgy/sassy than i like. cleary and dahl and wilder are wonderful. would she like the betsy-tacy books? there are so many new series out there these days. is her style more girly/adventure/fantasy/historic/mystery? we've got lots of readers around here to advise.

Ginna said...

TIGHTS! That's what I do in the winter anyway. They last so much longer than nylons and are way more fun too.

Beverly Clearly isn't too old for her, I promise. My Max sat through a Henry Huggins and the first Ramona book and he doesn't sit for anything.
I also liked reading the "Sideways stories from Wayside School" with my little brother when he was about their age.

I can't remember the mascara I like, but it also doesn't come off when I wash my face, so that doesn't help much! :)

Carly said...

You could also try the Wizard of Oz books. They are super cool.

Megan said...

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books were my absolute FAVORITES. Also, if you like to laugh about farts and poop (i.e. if you're low class like me) it doesn't get funnier than Captain Underpants. Junie B. Jones is also an absolute favorite series.

Somebody else said they liked the Polk Street School books, and I second that. Love them.

Way back when I used to check out the "Betsy Books" at the Provo Library by Caroline Heyward (I think that was her name) they are totally 50's but totally darling. How old is Hazel? I'm thinking 1st grade moving into second?

Janssen said...

Cold cream is excellent for removing makeup. Also, cheap. Also, I use the mascara with the pink and green tube.

I don't know about getting cheap tickets to Boston, but I DO know a really cheap place to stay (our living room floor with an air mattress). We'd love to have you.

nhsphoto said...

i love maybelline's define-a-lash mascara (both the pink one and the green one are good).

and i would agree with some of the above quotes and say boots for winter, or leggings. i even went to target once and bought a plethora of funky tights. fishnet, or the kind with the patterns. super fun.

you are so funny. i just think that your family should come over for a cookout and to entertain me for an evening.

hawsfam said...

You could try the "How To Train Your Dragon" books that the movie was based on, they seem pretty cool and the movie was hilarious (although I'm not sure why the Norse Vikings had scottish and Irish accents). Your blog is hilarious! I'm Natalie Simpson's sister-in-law, btw.

Brittney said...

Found your blog through a friend's. I love reading. Thought I should come out of the closet to recommend flying to new York. Sometimes you can connect super cheap to Boston or what I did was take the Chinatown bus. It connects you between ny and Boston Chinatowns. A little smelly but empty enough to kick back and at 30 bucks round trip it can save a lot--if it's worth your time.

Unknown said...

Here's my 2 cents worth as commenter #29!! You probably won't get this far...

But I love Maybeline's Mini Mascara Brush (it's in a silver bottle). The small brush makes it easy to put on and not get all over your face. And I use baby oil to take it off and then wash my face with face cleanser. I'm not a vaseline fan.

As for white nylons, I wear them! We'll be geeky together. I think I bought my last pair at Nordstrom. The price has been worth it as I haven't bought any in years!

See you tomorrow!

Stopher and Nicolle said...

agh! white tights?! please no! for winter you would most likely be wearing dark clothes anyway, so go with textured blacks, grays, and browns. just plain nylons are things my mother wears...and she barely does... i also like fun and funky colors that have patterns. no, i'm not 16, i just worked in fashion for a long time. i don't know if you have a Fred Meyer (I don't), but my mother is always finding awesome leg coverings (nylons, tights, whatever) there.
also, how old is hazel? my cousins are 8-13 and they all read the Rick Riordan books about the Greek Gods. The Lightning Thief is the first one. Caroline's idea looks good, though...Roald Dahl is amazing.

Anonymous said...

1) You may want to consider Full 'N Soft by Maybelline--regular or waterproof.

2) It's more acceptable in our community to go without any nylons/pantyhose (exfoliate & moisturize!) if one can't wear black; but we're in southern Nevada, so we don't have to worry about a long, cold winter.

4) The Geronimo Stilton book series is hilarious!

clarkjrfamily said...

Em uses Cover Girl Lash Blast Volume. She loves it. I'm too cheap to buy separate mascara so I use it too. I wouldn't use the waterproof though, cause I wake up looking like your picture when I do.

Kimba said...

Is it because you aren't using oil-based remover? I use the Covergirl brand, and it's always taken off my waterproof mascara, so regular should be fine.

My sister has funny ideas about nylons, but she found some great looking tiny tan fishnet nylons at Macy's. Sounds weird I know, but they actually look quite...sophisticated.

Becky D said...

Just read through all of your comments and it seems everyone is addressing your mascara issue as though you want something that comes off easily with soap and water or some kind of remover, but no one has suggested what to do if you ONLY want to use water...that's me. I can't put ANYTHING on my eyes that isn't 100% water soluble. Neutrogena makes lash tint (not mascara/no wax) that comes off with a wet cotton ball. No specialty store required. Also, the pink and green brand you already use is water soluble in the blue color - can you wear blue? It looks like you have brown eyes, so maybe that's not your preference, but it comes right off, unlike the black. P.S. - I love you blog.

Many moons ago I bought off white nylons by Donna Karen that were super luxurious. They had a shimmer and silky feel. Kind of like pearlized butter. This was 8 years ago though, and I'm thinking maybe they are way old school by now. Maybe the outfit you're wearing said white nylons with is old school too? I'd say tights (not white) is the better way to go in the winter, and in the summer just shave, moisturize and let the world see those legs!

P.S. You're super funny...I giggle when I read your blog

Alright Jayne, I wish I had read this before I saw you today because I have the answer to all your problems - and no, it is not alcohol... although... well, no.

Anyways, I agree with all those who say covergirl lash blast, you can buy it in bulk at Costco. Do NOT wear white nylons, I beg you. Boston is a very historical city and since I am in the process of reading about America's break with England I should say "that's right Boston, you are not Europe - your better! Dammit! God bless the USA!"
Tell Hazel to quit spending so much time reading and more time watching tv and playing computer games.

You're welcome.

P.S. Jayne, don't wear nylons at all. Just wear tights. They disguise the leg hair and don't look so old ladyish. I can't believe we have known each other so long and not had this conversation.

Book suggestions- go back to the old school stuff. It's much batter to read aloud, then your girl can ready magic fairy buses on her own when she' older.
Faves for me and my girls: Beverly Cleary (go with Ramona's books, their aimed a little younger); EB White-Charlotte's Web was too much for my 6 year old but not for many others in her class-Stuart Little was a big hit; and the classic tales Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

1.) splurge. i have mac. i love it. and i used to HATE mascara.

2.) i've never seen white hose. at least, i don't recall seeing any. i have seen some really, really pale shades of those "leg colored ones". i have seen white tights. the gap has some. i bought a pair of theirs and got several wears out of them.

3.) fly on saturdays. i did a search on continental. flights leaving on june first, for example are more than doubled, sometimes even tripled the cost of flights four days later, on a saturday. come back on a tuesday or something. pick a day during the week that isn't as in demand. i found one for as low as three hundred ninety-four dollars. a big difference from eleven hundred.

4.) how good a reader is she? junie b. jones is good, and her books are classified as chapter books. i used to work at a bookstore, and i'm racking my brains right now trying to remember other chapter books. but all i can remember that are more for girls are the ones about fairies, princesses, ponies and puppies. i'll go look tomorrow and get back to you. as for young readers -- judy blume and beverly cleary come to mind first. i LOVED the madeleine l'engle books and the phantom tollbooth when i was a kid.

and thanks, thanks SO much for putting air supply in my head.

Solution to winter, you wear a long skirt and boat. Nylons of the devil, all colors.
Massacra, just go get a tube of mac masscara, you will be happy.
As for the books Someone needs to write a chapter book for 1st and 2nd graders that is actually good! Why dont you do it Jayne! If there is ever a child that needs to wiped out is Junie B Jones! Don't go down that path, unless you want a super bratty child that don't talk good. Worst series ever. Box car children is good. My kids teacher makes them read these http://www.scrollpublishing.com/store/pathway-publishing-readers.html
they are Amish, and kind of boring, but my kids love them and are the perfect reading level, and really improve their reading. They will make you want to live on a farm.

CoverGirl Washable Waterproof. I have been using it for 16 years. Purple tube...I will never switch...It's really not "swimable" or even "cryable" waterproof by any means, but it's a good compromise, and it washes off sooo well.

46 comments?! Holy crow when did you get so popular. Apparently everyone else has discovered how enjoyable your blog is :)

#1 Lashblast Hydrofuge by Cover Girl- best stuff ever and it washes off

#2 I have never owned white nylons... what does that mean?

#3 As soon as Boston gives you an aswer will you past it along? It costs me about $350 a ticket to go visit my parents in Maine

megan said...

"Wow," said Megan. "How long has it been since I've looked at Jayne's blog?" said Megan. said Jack, said Annie. Why can't they just once say, "replied Jack," or "asked Annie?" Must we really just SAY every damn thing??? Totally annoyed with Jack and Annie too. Try Animal Ark books. First one we read was "Racehorse in the Rain" which reminded me of a jr. Dick Francis, so I was hooked. They are about a young British girl who's parents are both vets. There is also an Animal Ark Hauntings series which J loves to read to himself. These are refreshing after Magic Treehouse (good in their own right, but...).

I just bought a purple tube of cover girl. (black mascara, not purpe). Washes off better than anything I have ever tried.

P.S. There are too many comments since you posted this thursday so I have no idea what anybody else told you. But my book idea is the best, ok? ok.

alright, i gots some advice for you.
mascara- it comes in a green tube and is maybelleine i think. that majorly helps huh?
to get to boston (i live there) check southwest and airtran. also check on flying into manchester nh instead. its about an hour and a half from boston so if thats inconvenient, forget about it but they might be way cheaper that way.

and how about just call it good and get hazel a year subscription to cosmo?

and i think you could wear white tights - you know, the thicker ones, as opposed to nylons. is that the difference? but i don't know. you've got some opinionated readers who think otherwise.

#1 I do not buy expense make-up, but have tried every mascara as I have a problem with smudging. I now splurge on the black dual Senegence mascara (found through a friend who sells it). It stays on, does not smudge even when swimming and yet comes off with soap and water. Love.

#2 White nylons are a no. My legs are so white, but I just pretend pale skin is in. Wear really cute shoes and no one will notice how white your bare legs are.

#3 Kayak.com Make sure you go to Boston during the Head of the Charles Regatta. I miss the East Coast.

#4 Some great suggestions already - try Cricket in Times Square, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tale of Despereaux, The Paddington Bear series, Pippi Longstocking, A Light in the Attic . . . there are so many wonderful kids books!

*First things first...
NO, NO, NO!!! To both wearing a Snuggie in public and to wearing white nylons. They are both as bad as that stupid phase of wearing your pajamas out in public. UGH. You are better than that. If you don't want to shave your legs and it's cold, wear tall boots. If you've shaved but you don't like the uneven look of your legs then get Sally Hansen's Airbrush Legs. It's not a self tanner, think of it more as foundation for your legs. My friend did a review of it on her makeup blog check it out at:
www.classycosmetics.blogspot.com
I've also done a few makeup tutorials on her site as well, so definitely check it out!
*Secondly...
you could take everyone's advice on mascara... OR...
you could remember that you have a friend who just happens to be a makeup artist and give her a call (hint, hint... that would be me). I'm sure she would be glad to answer any and all questions you have, and could even get you a discount on the amazing counter mascaras.
*Most importantly however... NEVER take your mascara off with Vaseline or baby oil. These products should NEVER come near your eyes, they can damage your eyes and in some cases lead to a very painful surgery on your tear ducts to unclog them. Use a mascara remover. If you want you can wash your face first and then dip a Q-Tip into your mascara remover to get the excess and use less remover.
Love you to pieces Jayne, and hope to hear from you soon!
P.S. 51 comments?!? Really?!? I'm lucky if I get 1! I'm going to put a button on the left side of my blog saying: Wish I was as cool as Jayne!

The charlston chews bites are way better frozen.

We just finished Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Charlie and the Glass Elevator. At one time I peed my pants in the latter. I love Roald Dahl but I won't let them read them, jut me to them. They make adults look like idiots, so i edit. I don't want to spoil the surprise for when they get older.

I need a chart to tell me what nylons go with what outfits and what shoes. Someone told me I am supposed to go without. What would my mother say?

Anything by these authors:

- Roald Dahl

- Ann M. Martin (not JUST Babysitter's Club, but those are still fun for that age).

Well... let me just be comment number SIXTY.

So glad my Final Show is up and done so I could come back to my favorite blog (and apparently everyone else's too).

I haven't read through all the comments, so pardon repeats, but I am one of the few joins you with white tights (aren't "tights" and "nylons" interchangeable, but "nylons" are technically the skin-colored ones?)... except the last time I remember wearing them was in the MTC... so whatever that mean.

Fishnets certainly don't keep your legs warm, though they make you feel cute.

I've long-refused to jump on the bandwagon of leggings but my Mom gave all the girls some for Christmas and I love them—as comfy as PJs but black and socially acceptable under all my skirts.

I was trying to think back to the equivalent of Magic Treehouse when I was that age, and I think it's Boxcar Children...

I have yet to discover Charleston Chews or the beauty of Netflix.

And finally, I hardly wear makeup, but Katy might be right about the benefits of my place of employment...

Hope I get to see you soon. Ben is anxious too. ;)

Jaynie,

I love your blog and even though I have not met you, I'll recommend a book anyway - the Ivy and Bean series, we love them.

Also, I MISS white nylons. I wore white knee-highs every day of my 18 months as a missionary. I still remember watching an Oprah episode on bad fashion and someone being ridiculed for wearing them. I stopped liking her after that.

Any books by Lois Lenski are great (Strawberry Girl, Shoo-Fly Girl etc.), All of a Kind of Family series is really special.

Also, black tights match anything and white tights are cute (especially with white shoes)...

This is really late but I use the same mascara and I take it off with baby oil. It is pretty much the same stuff as the Cover Girl mascara remover but you can buy a big bottle of it for $1. I wash my face every night with the cetaphil face wash, so I just make sure that I do it after I take off my mascara so that the greasy feel is not there.
